Faith Matters in Maine UPDATE – February 28, 2013: “Government – Ordained by God”

There is a mindset amongst conservatives that concerns me. When I hear certain commentators talk about government, they do so with such disdain you would think the concept of government is flawed. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in individual freedom and I think the best government is limited government, but as a Christian, I cannot escape the fact that God ordained government. Does our present government have problems, you bet, and they indeed should be thoughtfully and respectfully addressed. Romans 13 is not a call for believers to fatalistically accept evil or injustices, and the Bible clearly teaches we are to obey God rather than man, but the Apostle Paul reminded the Romans we are to submit ourselves recognizing God ordains authority. Government isn’t the problem — – bad governing is.
