Elementary School board Approves Sending Church Messages Home with Parents
The Christian Civic League of Maine came to the aid of an Angel this month. Angel Merchant, the Sunday School Superintendent of the Otis Baptist Church encountered some difficulties with her local elementary school. At the beginning of the school year the principal of Beech Hill Elementary School forbade Merchant from distributing flyers advertising church programming. Tax Limitation Measure's Supporters Gather in Augusta

| Approximately 60 people gathered to support the measure |
Taxpayer Bill of Rights supporters gathered in Augusta at 10 a.m. this morning for a press conference. The controversial measure is championed by Mary Adams, a long time conservative economic activist in Maine. She rallied volunteers to gather the required number of signatures to place the measure on the ballot on November 7, 2006. Adams used to write for the League's RECORD when Ben Bubar Jr. was leader of the League. She is from the small rural town of Garland.
The ballot question reads, "Do you want to limit increases in state and local government spending to the rate of inflation plus population growth and to require voter approval for all tax and fee increases?" A yes vote will enact the measure...READ

Money issues top Woodcock Agenda: Values and beliefs take a back seat
In an interview with CNN radio in Lewiston recently Republican Senator Chandler Woodcock pointed to his voting record while in the Maine Legislature to support his claim to being pro-life. With six weeks to go, the former public school teacher is running neck and neck with incumbent Governor John Baldacci in the polls. Baldacci must fend off two candidates who many believe are more liberal than him. Newspaper decides to publish letter to the editor
On Friday it looked like a Maine weekly was going to censor the views of the League. To read the original story click here. The League received an email from editor Dave Grima at 3 p.m. on Monday indicating that the letter would be published, with only very minor changes.
