In the spring of 2004 the Christian Civic League of Maine started an online forum. Six months later is was destroyed by someone who erased all the content, and replaced it with vile pornographic and anti-Christian messages.
The League has restarted its forum here, and continues to suffer harassment from people who are obsessed with the "gay" issue. One such user registered the username "mikeheathisgay" today. The email they posted with the registration was zippy@yahoo.com.
While not certain, the League's director speculates that the problem is not robots that crawl the internet and post advertisements to forums. The League has a block in place that should eliminate that from happening. One forum administrator told Heath last week that the free software the League uses, PHBbb, is easy to hack into.
In the past month dozens of posts have appeared that have included links to pornographic websites. They are deleted quickly by the League's diligent staff.
One individual has been banned from the forum so far. He has harassed League director Mike Heath's wife, Paulie, on a page that she maintains on the popular music selling website, Amazon. This young man is from Belfast. His name is Adam Flanders. He tried to create trouble on the League's forum.
The banning mechanism in the forum software appears to be working with Mr. Flanders, unless he is the one registering the bogus usernames and email addresses.
