League Director Michael Heath is quoted in the national
pro family press describing Senator Chandler Woodcock's appearance last
weekend with liberal Governor Christie Todd Whitman as "odd" and
"perhaps inappropriate." Heath was called for the interview with AgapePress, an affiliate of the American Family Association, after this publication posted a news article about the appearance.
Heath told the national publication that the League would have preferred that the Senator not attend the GOP Rally with Whitman. The 45 year old pro family leader preferred that Senator Woodcock do things differently. "If he wanted to make a statement about civility and citizenship," Said Heath. "He should hold his own press conference."
Whitman was in Maine to promote her group that is called "It's My Party Too." The group is a reaction to socially conservative citizens who are working within the Republican Party to end legal abortion and push homosexuality back into the closet where it belongs.
A diversity of opinions are featured on the League's forum thread regarding the article. Some Republicans suggest that the Rally was Whitman's effort to get liberal Republicans to support the conservative Woodcock. Whitman endorsed Woodcock for Governor at the Rally.
Senator Chandler Woodcock is trying to unseat incumbent socially-liberal Democrat John Baldacci.
An email is circulating featuring Woodcock's stand on evolution and abortion in a televised debate this week. The email is called "A Vote for Values" It includes the following information:
WGME 13 hosted a Gubernatorial Forum for the candidates last night.
