| Elaine Bridge, President of the Christian Education League, doing her part |
Volunteers gathered to help Christian Education League president Elaine Bridge today. The building was buzzing with generous people giving their time. They all came from the China Regional Nazarene Church. They came in to help the ministry raise $24,000 to fix up the office headquarters building located at 70 Sewall Street in Augusta. The building is named in honor of the former leader, Benjamin C. Bubar Jr., who led the League for 33 years.

The building mortgage was paid off early after a successful fund raising campaign in 1999. The ministry decided to enter the new millenium with no debt. The only debt the ministry had at the end of the last century was the mortgage. Donors contributed over $100,000 over and above operating expenses in 1999 to make the campaign successful.
The Ben Bubar Jr. Headquarters Building was purchased by the Christian Education League in 1988. The federal style residence was then converted into office space.

The Christian Civic League of Maine was formed on March 29, 1897. The Christian Education League came along in the late 1950s as a result of IRS regulation changes. In 2003 the League formed a political action committee due to shifting campaign rules. That PAC is called the Christian Action League.

The Civic League exists to enact good laws and provide for their impartial enforcement. The Education League educates all the people of Maine in good citizenship and the Action League elects honest and competent public officials. All three founding purposes were performed by the Christian Civic League of Maine until the late 1950s.
The Christian Civic League of Maine, the lobbying group, is the most well funded. The Christian Education League raises slightly less than the Civic League in annual donations. The Christian Action League raised and spent over $200,000 last year to defend marriage. It has no money this year.
All three groups are seeking volunteers, as well as donations. To volunteer or give call the office today at 1-800-769-4132.
The Christian Education League Capital Campaign has raised nearly $10,000 of the $24,000 that is required to repair and maintain the building. This money is being raised to install vinyl siding, and replace the roof.
