With the public support of Roman Catholic leadership homosexual activists expanded their "rights" (there exists no natural right to homosexuality, and one will never exist) under Maine law. Hein pointed out that Catholic support remained strong even though homosexuals removed a key reason for that support. In a last minute back room manuever homosexual activists removed the provision that would force businesses to give marriage-like workplace benefits to the siblings of their employees. The Chancery refused comment to the RECORD.
"There is absolutely no doubt about it," said League director Mike Heath, "the right to practice sex outside of marriage is expanding in Maine with the complicity and outright support of the Roman Catholic Chancery of Portland and Bishop Richard Malone."
Heath went on to say that it gives him no pleasure to say it. He has fond memories of a brief meeting he and his wife, Paulie, had with him when he first became Bishop in 2004. The relationship has gone straight down hill from there.
Maine state government, with absolutely no resistance from any other Christian force in Maine other than the League, spends $250,000 per year to directly undermine the sexual morality of young people. Through the Maine Attorney General's office clubs are formed every school year that essentially perform gestapo like functions in the schools. They enforce speech codes and teach that Biblical admonitions against sexual infidelity are completely detached from freedom and are, in fact, intolerant and discriminatory ideas.
The Governor will sign LD 375 soon. The measure drew support from unlikely sources. One legislator who has been a stalwart League supporter in the past defected. He told the League that our opposition to LD 375 makes us "look hateful."
Reflecting on the exchange with the legislator Heath admitted deep sadness over the developing situation in Maine. While the state held the line against the homosexual agenda for many years it is clear that narcissism now has the upper hand. Heath said, "The hunger for sexual pleasure and emotional bonding with whatever happens to excite you is now the most important thing. Our laws and public policies are being rewritten to reflect this new world order. This force is now even straining the commity and cooperation that once existed between Christians of good will who publicly stand for the common good."
