Stand against the use of Taxpayer Dollars to Fund Abortions in Maine!
Let your voice be heard on this pending Maine legislation (LD 1309). Take part in rally on the capitol steps which will be held prior to the Health and Human Services Committee's hearing on the bill.
Rally at Noon
Capitol Steps, Augusta
Public Hearing at 2:00 PM
Health and Human Services Committee
Cross State Office Building, Room 209
It is important that we demonstrate our insistence that this bill be rejected by the committee and ultimately by the legislature as a whole. We can best do this by turning up large numbers of individuals to give witness to our concerns.
Prior to the Hearing we will be gathering at noon at the steps to the Capitol to rally in support of life. This is yet another opportunity to be together in solidarity in opposition to the bill.

From Maine Right to Life:
LD 1309 asks taxpayers to fund elective abortions for Maine women. Rape, incest and life of the mother cases are covered by federal funds, and, private dollars are available when the mother can't pay for it - which makes this legislation redundant at your expense.
LD 1309 disregards your personal opposition to abortion and imposes forced acceptance of abortion by using your tax dollars to fund it.
Proponents of LD 1309 want to trade private dollars for your tax dollars. Funding is available to Maine women who cannot afford an abortion.
Proponents of LD 1309 say it is a "constitutionally protected right." The truth is...Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness is a constitutionally protected right, a civil right. Roe v Wade secures access to abortion for women who seek it. It does not require taxpayer funding for this procedure and it's absurd to claim otherwise.
Proponents of LD 1309 say its "unfair" for taxpayers to pay when a poor woman chooses to continue her pregnancy but not pay for it when a poor woman chooses "not to continue" her "unwanted" pregnancy. Translation: if you pay for their choice you better pay for ours. Again...it's Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness, not eliminating life. You don't eliminate poverty by eliminating poor women's children.
Proponents of LD 1309 say Maine "discriminates" against poor women because they don't have "meaningful access to abortion care." Meaningful = Abortion on demand, paid for by you. Abortion services are widely available to Maine women. The sad reality is that poor women in Maine will have the only safety net they've had so far, taken away from them. Maine women face intense outside pressure to abort babies against their will - our government should be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Proponents of LD 1309 erroneously claim that Maine people want to pay for abortion on demand. They refer to a self funded poll that suggests...74% of Mainers polled agreed that MaineCare should cover abortions that a doctor determines are necessary to protect a woman's health. They didn't ask...
If Maine people would be willing to pay for abortion on demand, they didn't ask...
If Maine people would like to trade federal dollars for your tax dollars, they didn't ask...
If Maine people would like to trade private funding for your tax dollars...they didn't ask because they knew the answer would be a resounding
No!
