"Beyond-Me" Citizenship Challenge is Issued

Kathi Macias provides uplifting devotional commentary to the League periodically. We published her "[Love] does not rejoice in iniquity" (1 Cor. 13:6) last August, and Speaking the Truth in Love this past February. These are powerful commentaries.

So it was not unexpected that Macias's new book "Beyond Me: Living a You-First Life in a Me-First World," published last month by New Hope Publishers, would bring positive reviews. Cheryl C. Malandrinos writes for the American Chronicle and published Macias's own perspective on her book.

We thank Kathi for her new book. The first chapter is available online, and it is worth reading. It can also be purchased online or ordered at your local bookstore. Its message and challenge of selflessness and encouragement is desperately needed in our current day. We would do well to heed her call to discipleship, especially those of us who claim the title of Christian.

"When I began thinking about Kathi Macias's new book, Beyond Me: Living a You-First Life in a Me-First World, I knew that it could have life-changing effects on more than just Christians. So therefore, I asked her to write an article about how following a true call to discipleship could impact the entire world. Here's what she had to say:

"The late President John F. Kennedy is famous for having said in his inaugural address, 'Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.' Though he may not have been familiar with the specific term, the newly elected president was, in effect, calling on us as Americans to become 'beyond me' citizens who, rather than limiting our efforts to our own immediate concerns, instead willingly give of ourselves to better our country. Sadly, since that frigid day in January 1961, many of us have ignored President Kennedy´s wise advice and have drifted in the opposite direction, ever polishing and honing our 'what can the government do for me' attitude.
