Most merciful Heavenly Father,
On this National Day of Prayer we acknowledge you as the Father and Creator of all things, and the giver or life.
We praise you for the many gifts you have given us, especially the natural beauty and bountifulness of our land, our state, and our nation.
Help us to see that without you, no matter how wealthy and powerful we are, we are the poorest and most abject of all people.
We are mindful that past, present, and future are always before you, and that you see us here today standing where many generations have stood before, praising you, and humbly seeking your will. We ask that we may be worthy of the efforts of those who have gone before.
We pray that we may not deviate from the course you set for our forefathers. May we be worthy of the statue of Wisdom they placed high above the capitol dome. Let us not forget that the light she holds stands for the light of truth you have given each man, that he may see the way to obey your laws. Grant that our leaders may see that without your light, they stumble in darkness.
We humbly beseech you to give our lawmakers the wisdom to do right, and to turn from folly. Let them find in the pages of the Bible a light to guide their decisions. Let them find in your son Jesus, a model for good government. Let them find in the heart of Christ, the mercy and compasion with which to treat the poor, the sick, and above all let them find the will to protect the most innocent of human life, the unborn children who are threatened by abortion.
May they remember their solemn duty to acknowledge you as the source of all law, and may they know that any law which is contrary to your will is folly.
May the people of our state and nation, with the help of their governmental leaders, obey your commandments.
Do not look upon the manifold sins which have been committed against reason, and against the innocent lives of many in this state and in this nation. Look not upon those who have departed from your way. Look instead upon those who humble themselves here today and seek your face, and implore your mercy. Grant us your forgiveness, and stengthen the hand of those who oppose abortion and attacks on the family.
Bless and heal our land, and free it from sin, so that our children, and our children's children, like many generations before them, may stand here one day and glorify your holy name.
For it is in the name of your son, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen
