GOP Senate Challenger Frary Says Michaud Panders to Pro-Abort NARAL

Rep. Michaud (D-ME)
Maine's 2nd District Democrat Congressman, Rep. Michael Michaud, is sponsoring federal pro-abortion legislation that would provide the Plan B "morning after" abortion pill to U.S. military servicewomen.

H.R. 2064, the "Compassionate Care for Servicewomen Act," would add the abortion-inducing pill to a list of contraception options already available to women in the military.  It was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in April, 2007, and referred to the Subcommittee on Military Personnel in June, 2007.

Along with Rep. Michaud's sponsorship, the bill is being co-sponsored by openly homosexual Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) in the House.  Maine's 1st District Democrat Congressman, Rep. Thomas Allen, is also co-sponsoring the pro-abortion bill.

Sen. Clinton (D-NY)
Identical legislation, S. 1800, is being sponsored by Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) in the U.S. Senate.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to consider the legislation over the next few months.  Most national pro-abortion groups are calling for their supporters to request action on the bill.

According to the bill's official summary, it "requires emergency contraception [the Plan B abortion-inducing pill] to be included on the basic core formulary of the uniform formulary of pharmaceutical agents for the pharmacy benefits program of the Department of Defense."

The Plan B abortion-inducing pill was removed from military base's health facility lists of suggested drugs on May 8, 2002.

John N. Frary
2008 2nd District Republican Congressional candidate John N. Frary, when asked about the news, said: "Political columnist Al Diamon has described Rep. Michaud's position on the abortion issue as 'incoherent.'   This is a tribute to [Michaud's] professionalism.

"A professional politician [like Michaud] loves clarity like the Devil loves holy water.  Mike Michaud has long succeeded in masterfully creating enough confusion to reassure his pro-life constituents while voting for measures which keep [pro-abortion groups like] NARAL from going after him too aggressively."

Requests for comment by the League Record from 2006's 2nd District Congressional candidate L. Scott D'Amboise and potential 2008 2nd District Republican Congressional candidate Zachary Smith were not immediately returned.
