Bangor CBS Station Owner to Host Homosexual Activist Training  Workshop

EqualityMaine
The local radical homosexual groups EqualityMaine and the Gay and Lesbian Activists and Defenders (GLAD) have recently announced a “Media Team” training session for interested homosexual activists.  It is scheduled to be held on April 11 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the Portland, Maine headquarters of Diversified Communications, the owner of Bangor’s WABI-TV (Channel 5, CBS affiliate).

According to the EqualityMaine and GLAD announcement, the “Media Team” training session “will give [homosexual activists] the tools to help promote our stories and opinions in media throughout the state” and to “help [homosexual activists] find the everyday stories of your LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered] friends and neighbors that can help Mainers understand our fight for [homosexual] equality.”

Gay & Lesbian Activists
The announcement does not mention the exact location of the training, but only states “Please join us on Wednesday, April 11th in Portland (times and locations to be announced soon).  For more information, please email Darlene Huntress at dhuntress@equalitymaine.org or call (207) 761- 3732, ext. 3004.”  In response to an email request, Darlene Huntress, the Public Policy Director for EqualityMaine, admitted that the training would occur at the Diversified Communications headquarters, located at 121 Free Street in Portland.  The email response does not identify Diversified Communications as the owner of the Bangor CBS-affiliated television station.  The email response did state those homosexual activists who did want to attend would be required to RSVP.

Bangor's WABI-TV
In addition to owning Bangor’s WABI television station, Diversified Communications also owns a number of publications including National Fisherman, Workboat (a commercial fishing publication), and Kosher Today.  Their website does not publicize such activities as homosexual activist training as such, but does state, “We participate as full members of the communities we serve.”  It is unclear from their website whether Diversified Communications considers homosexual activist training sessions as part of their “community participation.”

Diversified Communications can be reached by email at custserv@divcom.com and by phone at (207) 842-5500.  WABI-TV at 35 Hildreth Street in Bangor can be reached by email at wabi@wabi.tv and by phone at (207) 947-8321.
