Earlier this summer, all five of the churches in Aroostook County's Easton, Maine (United Baptist Church, Pine Tree Baptist Church, Easton Pentecostal Church, Easton Wesleyan Church, and the Easton United Methodist Church) met in a combined service at the Easton High School.  The result of that meeting was the creation of a new local food pantry: Friends Helping Friends - Easton Branch.

As the name suggests, the Easton Branch of the food pantry is a partnership with the parent Friends Helping Friends food pantry in Fort Fairfield, Maine.  At least it is for now, while the Easton Branch is still in its formative stages.

The Friends Helping Friends - Easton Branch states in its initial letter to local supporters that it is "a service to the community of Easton.  It is our desire to lend a hand to our neighbors."  The Easton Branch food pantry also has an eligibility form for those to complete who are interested in receiving assistance.

The Friends Helping Friends - Easton Branch is led by its President, Bryan Lawrence, its Vice-President, Joe Lockhart, and its Treasurer, Harold Clark.  Lawrence is also the publisher of The (Aroostook) County Christian, the popular monthly Christian newspaper.  The Easton Branch of the food pantry can be reached at P.O. Box 262, Easton, Maine 04740.

The Fort Fairfield Friends Helping Friends food pantry is led by Stephen Lewis, Shawn Murchison, and Tiny Holbrook.  The Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce listing describes their charitable work:  "Through our Food Pantry Ministry we reach out to the entire town of Fort Fairfield to feed those in need.  Every citizen who is in need of food assistance applies for our service with our allocated form.  If the applicant qualifies then we give them a food box twice a month.

"We have a delivery service for our seniors, disabled, and those individuals with out vehicle access.  No one in our organization receives pay.  The experience of volunteering with us allows people of all ages a chance to reach out and unselfishly do for others."

Appropriately, the food pantry uses the words of Jesus Christ, as found in the Gospel of Matthew 25:35, on their material: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."
