League's Heath to EqualityMaine: Apologize For This Intimidation Campaign

Maine's leading homosexual and cross dressing lobby publicly declared this week to "build a presence at hundreds of polling places" this June 10th in an effort to prevent Christians, social conservatives, evangelicals, and traditional marriage supporters from signing the YES for Marriage and Equality pro-family referendum petitions.

In a May 14th article from the homosexual New England Blade publication, EqualityMaine's Executive Director Betsy Smith "outlined...a plan that asks volunteers to stand with the people the [Christian Civic] League recruits to collect signatures for the petition."

Christian Civic League of Maine Executive Director Michael Heath said, ""I think it is disgusting that so-called 'gay' groups plan on harassing dear Christian grandmothers on Primary Election Day."

"They need to call off this totalitarian campaign of intimidation and apologize, said Heath, "Yesterday wouldn't be soon enough."

I ended Thursday night, the National Day of Prayer, in Mars Hill at a prayer meeting, and started Friday morning with preachers! I joined some pastors for breakfast. We lamented the situation in Fort Kent, and all pledged to do what we could. One pastor asked if any non-monetary help was needed. I told him that I didn't know, at that point.

My son, Jared, is with me on the trip. He is driving, helping out dear ole dad. I feel safe having a U.S. Marine Corp Corporal in the drivers seat, even if he is only 19 years old. Ooooh Ahhh!

After breakfast we made a couple media stops and arrived in Fort Kent before noon. We were slowed in our journey by a full-size pick up truck towing a giant orange high-capacity pump. He was, no doubt, headed for a basement in the flooded town.

The flood had receeded dramatically by the time we arrived on the scene, but the water was still visible in many places where it didn't belong. Clouds floated lazily in a deep blue northern Maine sky. The angry flood waters of the St. John showed no interest in putting a reflected sky blue smile on its surface. On the contrary the river's water was in a foul muddy mood as it rushed to the atlantic, to the relief of some weary victims, I'm sure.

League creates official "Group" on Facebook

The League created an official Facebook Group on Sunday, January 13, 2008. Facebook is an online social networking website. Individuals must become a member of Facebook to join the Christian Civic League of Maine Group.

Facebook has millions of users worldwide. It follows on the success of another social networking site used mostly by teens called Myspace. Facebook is attracting more adults to its pages.

Technology experts predict that 2008 will be the year of social networking.

Heath Votes "No" on Question 1

The Christian Civic League of Maine is encouraging Christians across Maine to vote on November 6. The League's PAC, Gambling With the Way Life Should Be has placed its emphasis on Question 1, which asks "Do you want to allow a Maine tribe to run a harness racing track with slot machines and high-stakes beano games in Washington County ?"

Executive Director Michael Heath placed his NO vote by absentee ballot and said, "Mainers don't need the further temptation of another casino."

Liberal Maine Columnist Calls League "Anti-Sex Extremists"

Maine commentator Al Diamon writes his "Politics and Other Mistakes" column weekly, and it is published in a number of Maine newspapers.

Here he refers to the League and others as "anti-sex extremists" for criticizing the Portland School Committee's decision to allow pre-teen public schoolchildren to be given prescription contraception and abortion-inducing pills.

"What [Portland's School Committe members] don’t deserve is to become the whipping boys and girls for a bunch of anti-sex extremists hoping to use this controversy to fulfill their fantasies of finally achieving political potency.

"The Christian Civic League of Maine stumbled on a state statute that says anyone having sex with somebody under 14 is guilty of gross sexual assault. The League immediately called on the state’s highest law enforcement official to take action to halt the alleged wave of prurience in Portland’s schools."

Democrat operative mocks Christ

Augusta Democrat City Committee vice chair Rick Redmond is pictured here. According to a reporter who called the Democrats yesterday the picture was taken one year ago at a Halloween Party. The online conservative forum As Maine Goes published the picture yesterday.

According to As Maine Goes Redmond is no stranger to publicity. He was hired by the Democrats to follow Senator Susan Collins around with a video camera earlier this year. His actions provoked a negative reaction out of the Collins camp.

Redmond is pictured here wearing a crown of thorns. It is unclear whether the red fluid on his brow is make up or his own blood. He is wearing a carefully prepared red ribbon with the name "CHRISTIAN CIVIC LEAGUE" prominently displayed on it. The third feature of the costume is a badge that displays a portion of a "Heath" candybar wrapper. The League's executive director is Michael Heath.

According to the liberal group Realize Maine, Redmond lives in Augusta and serves Governor John Baldacci as an Aide. The Christian Civic League of Maine's stalwart defense of marriage and family rankles the Governor's office. The Administration has not been above issuing public insults. In 2005 The RECORD remembered a 2004 incident with then Director of Communications Lee Umphrey who "created a stir last year (in 2004) by calling members of the League 'cuckoo clocks' when they joined for a pro-marriage rally on the steps of the State House."

Maine Attorney General's Silence Questioned

As the Christian Civic League of Maine requests a criminal investigation into the availability of contraceptives to some of Portland's King Middle School students, many are questioning the silence of Maine Attorney General Steven Rowe.

Under Maine statute, sex with a nonspousal minor under 14 is considered gross sexual assault.

"It is beyond comprehension that Maine's Attorney General, Steven Rowe, does not know about this criminal sexual activity in the Portland Middle Schools. His own wife is the head nurse for Portland schools. By her own public admission, Amanda Rowe knows of a number of pregnancies in Portland's middle schools," said the League's administrator Mike Hein.

The Fort Fairfield Journal, a bi-weekly periodical published in Aroostook County, has given the Christian Civic League of Maine's Banquet, an event League President Rev. Dallas Henry called exhilariting, a front-page piece in its October 10, 2007 edition. The Fort Fairfield Journal was represented at the Banquet by publisher and editor David Deschesne, who wrote the piece.

The entry calls Michael Heath's recent commentary “Save Our State Act” a "laff-fest" and also labels him as the "Peter Labarbera of New England". Michael Heath has called Americans For the Truth About Homosexuality Executive Director Peter Labarbera a "hero" on his radio program and podcast, Faith Matters in Maine.

Exhilariting League Fundraising Banquet

150 people gathered around banquet tables to enjoy a wonderful meal provided by the generous folks at Bangor Baptist Church. The food was wonderful, the service was first rate, and the atmosphere was exciting.

The crowd was blessed by the appearance and Christian testimony of baseball great, Bernie Carbo, former Red Sox player. This was followed by a rousing message from Coach David Daubenmire from Pass The Salt Ministry in Hebron, Ohio.

More Force than Soul

The national pro homosexual group that calls itself "Soulforce" is coming to Maine this weekend. Founded by a former speech writer to the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, the group recruits youth into the homosexual lifestyle. It does this by promoting the idea that certain moral wrongs (like homosexuality, lesbianism and bisexuality) can be the basis for legal rights. Under cover of the confusion caused by this "reasoning" they inject assertions about Christians, and especially Christian colleges, that are inaccurate.

Soulforce has made a name for itself by taking bus trips around the country. They fill their buses with homosexuals and their supporters. These buses attempt to force themselves onto Christian college campuses. Some campuses call the police and have them arrested for trespassing. Others choose to enter into a dialogue with them. They argue that the exchange has educational value.

Christian Banned from Maine Gnostic Pagan Shrine

League Record Reporter Served Criminal Warning by Sheriff's Deputy

On July 13, Immanent Grove pagan Gnostic circle property owner Eric Robbins contacted the Kennebec County (ME) Sheriff's Department to file a criminal complaint against League Record reporter Mike Hein. Robbins complained that Hein criminally trespassed on Robbins's 2328 Bog Road (also known as 2328 Middle Road) in Sidney, Maine. Hein visited the site in order to obtain images used in a League Record story about the local Maine pagan cult's activities.

Robbins lives with Kennebec County Democrat Committee Chair Rita Moran at that property, which also includes the pagan cult shrine. Hein was formally served with a written criminal trespass summons warning on July 17 by Deputy Andrew Jarman. The report lists Robbins as the property owner requesting the warning.

FEC Concedes League Ads Are Genuine in "Electioneering Communication" Prohibition Challenge

The FEC filed a joint motion today asking the D.C. district court to enter a declaratory judgment against the FEC and in favor of the Christian Civic League of Maine ("CCL") in its as-applied challenge to the "electioneering communication" prohibition.

The motion was joined by CCL and the intervenors (Sen. McCain and other primary sponsors of the McCain-Feingold law). This will resolve CCL v. FEC and is significant because it establishes two key elements to the scope of the protection for genuine issue ads from the electioneering communication prohibition in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision in FEC v. Wisconsin Right to Life Committee ("WRTL II").

James Bopp, Jr., lead counsel for CCL, states: "The right of the people to freely criticize politicians' positions on issues was established by the First Amendment. The fact that campaign finance 'reformers' only recognize this after being forced to do so by the Supreme Court reveals a fundamental, fatal flaw at the core of the modern campaign finance 'reform' movement. In reality, the First Amendment is the nation’s most fundamental 'campaign finance reform.'"

Massachusetts Legislature Ignores the People

“Polite just doesn’t cut it,” says Heath.

The Massachusetts Legislature deep-sixed a pro-marriage referendum proposal this week. Reflecting on the development in Massachusetts, League executive director Mike Heath said it is only a matter of time before Maine politicians eliminate the institution of marriage. Heath said he doesn't believe Maine can stop them unless the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland decides to strongly oppose it.

"I don't want to be overly pessimistic here," said the 45-year old Executive Director. "But, I've been fighting these guys for almost twenty years. Polite just doesn’t cut it.”

“They aren't going to be stopped in Maine by anything short of the truth. And the truth is that homosexuality is perverse, deviant and disgusting sexual behavior that isn't a topic of discussion in polite and civil societies. If people want to do it in the privacy of their home then shame on them, but I'm not interested in stopping their boorish bedroom antics anymore than I'm interested in hearing about it."

League to Fund Anti-Gambling PAC

The Christian Civic League of Maine has recently announced its intent to fund the League's political action committee (PAC), the Christian Action League, for the purpose of defeating this November's gambling expansion referendum. The League plans to give up to $100,000 of in-kind contributions to the Christian Action League PAC for the November 6th effort.

The League's Board of Director's decided recently to make defeating this gambling expansion referendum its top priority until November. This is the first time since 1994 that this Christian ministry has allowed her deep concerns over sexual morality to drop from its top priority ranking.

The League fully expects Maine people will reject gambling expansion this November.

TeenPact Participants Visit Capitol, League Headquarters

Over forty of Maine's best and brightest young Christian leaders visited the League heaquarters this week while spending the day at the Capitol in Augusta. TeenPact State Leader Justin Horsman along with national TeenPact coordinator Ned Williams, national program director Paul Holley, and national intern Tori Bontreger led the group from the Capitol Building, where they followed the Legislature in session, to the League office, where they visited for over an hour.

The young Christian men and women learned about the 110-year history of the League, and how it continues to be a powerful influence today in Maine. The participants were instructed how the looming battle over gambling expansion in Maine is likely to be the most important political and social issue in Maine over the next six months, and what the League is doing to fight the vice of gambling. It was noted how the League has fought against the destructive social ill of gambling throughout its history, along with addressing other issues like drug and alcohol abstinance, abortion, and the protection of traditional marriage.

A while ago a good friend of mine stopped by the League. He came with his checkbook, and he wrote a five hundred dollar check. While he was here I got the video camera out and he graciously agreed to become the first "actor" on our youtube channel. Now we've figured out how to include the video here.
