| EVEN A BAD JUDGE LISTENS
SOMETIMES “One day Jesus
told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant
prayer and to show them that they must keep praying until the
answer comes. ‘There was a city judge,’ he said, ‘a very godless
man who had great contempt for everyone. A widow of that city
came to him frequently to appeal for justice against a man who
had harmed her. The judge ignored her for a white, but
eventually she got on his nerves. ‘I fear neither God nor man,’
he said to himself, ‘but this woman bothers me. I’m going to see
that she gets justice, for she is wearing me out with her
constant coming!” Then the Lord said, ‘If even an evil judge can
be worn down like that, don’t you think that God will surely
give justice to his people who plead with him day and night?
Yes! He will answer them quickly.” (Luke 18:2-8)
QUOTATIONS ON HIGH-LEVEL
CONNIVERS
"One of the Seven Wise Men of Greece"
was wont to say that laws were like cobwebs, where the small
flies are caught and the great ones break through.” (Francis
Bacon)
“The liberties of our country, the
freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all
hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.
We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy
ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and
expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with
care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy
on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should
suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a
struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false
and designing men.” (Samuel Adams)
“I cannot accept, your canon that we
are to judge pope and king unlike other men, with a favorable
presumption that they do no wrong. If there is any presumption,
it is the other way against holders of power ... Power tends to
corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”(Lord Acton)
MAINE TURNS DOWN FEDERAL FUNDS
FOR ABSTINENCE PROGRAM
Thanks to the ultra-liberal
administration of Governor John Baldacci, Maine has become only
the third state in the nation to turn down federal money for a
highly-praised abstinence-only sex education program. Although
Maine had previously accepted the federal money for the
abstinence programs, new guidelines would prevent the money from
being used in a program which teaches both abstinence and
encourages students to be sexually active.
The state’s public health director,
Dora Ann Mills, said that the money was in fact harmful, because
it prevents “comprehensive” sex education from being taught in
the schools. Another drawback according to Mills, was that the
guidelines for the federal money required teaching that sex is
proper only inside marriage, and this Dora Ann Mills concluded
would exclude gay and lesbian teenagers. Both the ACLU and
Planned Parenthood vehemently oppose abstinence-only education.

HEATH TO FACE O'MEARA ON
STATEWIDE TELEVISION
The statewide news show Maine Watch
will broadcast a face off between Ted O'Meara and me on Thursday
October 13th. I've been on the show before discussing sexual
disorientation. I debated O'Meara in front of 400 University of
Maine students last Tuesday night. I'm looking forward to
talking with Maine Watch viewers about O'Meara's
group. He calls it "Maine Won't Discriminate." The more
accurate name for the group is "Maine Will Intimidate." Just
ask Donna Flanagan. She was physically harassed by one of their
supporters at a grocery store this spring while she was
gathering signatures. Other kind women were treated similarly
at the polls and in public as they peaceably discharged their
public duty gathering signatures. I look forward to talking
with Mr. O'Meara about this unseemly behavior, and I look
forward to once again watching him defend bisexuality as if it
were as pure as the new driven snow. Maine people are smart.
When given half a chance they see through his sophistry. We
plan on helping them out October 13th. Let your friends and
family know and invite them to tune in. -- by Mike Heath
