"Fearful lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its identity. . . ."
--Leszek Kolakowski, from Modernity on Endless Trial

THE GOOD SHEPHERD RUSHES IN

“…I have come so that they may have life and have it in greater measure. I am the good keeper of sheep: the good keeper gives his life for the sheep. He who is a servant, and not the keeper or the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming and goes in flight, away from the sheep; and the wolf comes down on them and sends them in all directions: Because he is a servant, he has no interest in the sheep. I am the good keeper; I have knowledge of my sheep, and they have knowledge of me, Even as the Father has knowledge of me and I of the Father; and I am giving my life for the sheep.”

(John 10:10-15)

BE HAPPY

“Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure;
  Where your treasure is, there is your heart;
  Where your heart is, there is your happiness.”

(Augustine)

“There are nine things needed for contented living: Health enough to make work a pleasure. Wealth enough to support your needs. Strength to battle with difficulties and overcome them. Grace enough to confess your sins and forsake them. Patience enough to toil until some good is accomplished. Charity enough to see some good in your neighbor. Love enough to move you to be useful and helpful to others. Faith enough to make real the things of God. Hope enough to remove all anxious fears concerning the future.”

(Goethe)

“There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy. By being happy, we sow enormous benefits upon the world."

(Robert Louis Stevenson)

WHO CALLS THE TUNE FOR TED O’MEARA?
(Or “WHAT THEY DON’T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THE BIG DEBATE”)

Both supporters and opponents of the People’s Veto are eagerly awaiting the debate tonight between Mike Heath, Executive Director of the Christian Civic League and Ted O’Meara, Senior Advisor to Maine Won’t Discriminate. A huge crowd is expected, since this may be the only meeting between the two leaders of the opposing groups before the vote on November 8.

Mike Heath is well known as the man who is leading the fight against the powerful elites who want to impose their harmful agenda on the people of Maine. What has been hidden from the public however is that Ted O’Meara is one of those elites!

On the eve of the debate, The RECORD uncovered the fact that O’Meara was Director of Corporate Communications for the Guy Gannet newspapers and Director of Communications for the Blethen Maine Newspapers. In other words, he was the principal corporate spokesman for both media companies.

Blethen Maine Newspapers owns the leading liberal newspapers in the state, the Portland Press Herald, The Maine Sunday Telegram, The Kennebec Journal, and the Morning Sentinel. Blethen Maine Newspapers is in turn owned by the Seattle Times Company, headquarted in Seattle, Washington.

Earlier this year, The RECORD revealed the fact that the Portland Press Herald was one of the sponsors of Equality Maine’s annual awards banquet. Equality Maine is of course, the largest pro-gay lobby in the state. The other sponsors of the event included two media corporations headquartered in New York City.

O’Meara was also chief of staff for the liberal, pro-partial birth abortion Senator Olympia Snowe when she was a U.S. Congresswoman, and was executive assistant to Senator William Cohen for eight years.  With a resume like his, Ted O’Meara is proof positive that an elitist agenda exists.  Maine Won’t Discriminate would do well to find another spokesman who is more representative of the people of Maine.

We can expect Ted O’Meara, with his long, long experience as corporate spokesman for the liberal elite to be as slippery as an eel at the debate tonight. But will someone be brave enough to ask him to lay his cards on the table?  All we ask is that people know who he really is. They deserve to know who calls the tune for Ted O’Meara.

The debate will be held at 7:00 o’clock tonight at the University of Maine at Orono. The event will be held at the Donald P. Corbett Business Building, Room 100. There are 350 seats, and the debate is free, first come first serve, with the priority given at 6:30 to UM students. At 6:45, the public will be let in. The questions will be a mix of questions that are pre-determined, and questions that are submitted by the audience at the start of the debate. The League is asking its friends and supporters to come prepared with good questions to submit at the beginning. The moderator for the event will be John Greenman, Public Affairs Producer for Maine Public Television.

BOWDOIN APPEARANCE OVERFLOWS

League Director Mike Heath made a one hour appearance before a crowd of 300 Bowdoin College Students last night.  The on campus Republican group that sponsored the event was forced to move the meeting to a larger room due to the number of attendees.  The crowd sat spellbound through the thirty minute speech entitled "The Vision Place of Souls:  Why there are so many Bush Bashers, Dream Catchers and Soul Snatchers."  League media liaison Tim Russell commented, "You could have heard a pin drop."

The mostly civil thirty minute question and answer period was punctuated with antagonistic remarks and short pre-planned speeches organized by an on campus group supporting the NO vote on Question 1. Coalition for Marriage chairman Pastor Sandy Williams joined Heath at the podium for the Q&A.

Heath said of the evening, "I loved it.  It was so much fun to be with those bright young people!"

Look for a more detailed account of the evening, along with a copy of the speech, in future issues of the RECORD or online.
