DAVID'S CRY FOR PURITY
"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your
unfailing love, according to your great compassion blot out my
transgressions, wash away all iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgression, and my sin is always before me. Against
you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so
that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you
judge. Surely I have been sinful from the time my mother conceived
me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts, you teach me wisdom
in the inner place. Cleanse me with hyssop and I will be clean; wash
me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness…"
(Psalm 51:1-8)
G.K. CHESTERTON COMMENTS ON THE
MODERN AGE
"Modern man is staggering and losing his
balance because he is being pelted with little pieces of alleged
fact which are native to the newspapers; and, if they turn out not
to be facts, that is still more native to newspapers."
"Properly speaking, of course, there is no such thing as a return to
nature, because there is no such thing as a departure from it. The
phrase reminds one of the slightly intoxicated gentleman who gets up
in his own dining room and declares firmly that he must be getting
home."
"What is called matriarchy is simply moral anarchy, in which the
mother alone remains fixed because all the fathers are fugitive and
irresponsible."
(G.K. Chesterton)
FORMER GOVERNOR ANGUS KING SAYS
“BAN SLOT MACHINES IN MAINE”
Former governor Angus King appeared on a
Portland radio talk show yesterday to share his strong support for
the effort to ban slot machines in Maine. King said that he opposed
the referendum in 2003 which resulted in Penn National building a
so-called “Racino” at Bangor Raceway. The former governor says that
on his cross-country trip across America, he was disturbed to see
how quickly casinos have proliferated in other states. King fears
that slot machine establishments could spread to as many as twenty
locations in Maine, if the citizens do not act now to ban slots
entirely. The petition drive effort to ban slots is important, said
King, because no state has ever stopped at one casino. Call 784-0846
to get your petitions today. The deadline is October 4, 2005.
IS THERE A PRO-GAY RIGHTS BIAS IN
THE LOCAL MEDIA?
Michael Heath, The Executive Director of
the Christian Civic League of Maine, was interviewed on Channel 6
WCSH Monday on the question of the upcoming referendum on the gay
rights law. In an effort to give a balanced picture, WCSH also aired
an interview with the parents of gays alongside Mike Heath’s
interview. But by yesterday morning, the interview with Mike Heath
had disappeared, and WCSH was airing only the interview with the
parents of gays.
When Tim Russell, the Legislative Liaison
for the League called WCSH and spoke with the Managing Editor, she
explained “she didn’t know what had happened” and said she would
check with the field reporter to find out why the interview with
Mike Heath was omitted. The Managing Editor at WCSH went on to
explain that it was “the goal of the station to present both sides
at all times.” When Tim Russell asked if she considered the omission
of Mike Heath’s interview fair and balanced reporting, she replied
that it was not.
THE
GREAT DECEPTION
The following letter was sent out last
night to pastors statewide by Rev. Dallas Henry, President of the
League.
These days we are learning more about the
hidden agenda of the homosexual rights movement than anyone would
care to know. The movement began decades ago, at a time when
virtually no one was aware of its existence. Even today, few people
realize the nature of its hidden goals. From the beginning, the
ultimate goal has been to silence anyone who refuses to condone the
practice of homosexuality. And from the beginning, the plan has been
to wear down the opposition with the charge of discrimination. Those
who disagree that homosexuality is normal and good are labeled
“evil” and “intolerant.” In other words, the great deception of
the homosexual rights movement is to portray all homosexuals as
noble and virtuous, and all Christians as villains.
We have to admit that homosexuals have been
very clever in advancing this great deception. Activists in
California recently passed a law which forbids political candidates
from saying anything critical about homosexuality. There is even
talk about outlawing the Bible as “hate speech.” The homosexual
rights lobby is aware of their immense power, and now they realize
they can be as intolerant and abusive as they like. Any person or
organization who stands in their way is branded as evil.
The only organization standing in the way
of the advancement of the homosexual rights movement in Maine is the
Christian Civic League. We need to be clear that Michael Heath is
considered the enemy of this movement, and that he is the focal
point of all of their accusations. If Mike Heath were out of the
way, and if the League were destroyed, same-sex marriage would
become legal in Maine within a matter of months. The League is the
only organization in Maine which is publicly exposing the homosexual
agenda and proclaiming God’s righteousness. During the legislative
session, the League is the only Christian organization at the
capitol building lobbying our lawmakers on behalf of every believer
and every Bible believing church in the state.
We must be alert at all times of the plans
to redefine marriage and to destroy the institution of the family as
we know it. As followers of Christ, we must take a stand for
righteousness in our society. The early martyrs, the Pilgrim
fathers, the opponents of slavery, all took a stand on their
Christian principles and resisted the evils of their day. Likewise,
it is our duty as Christians to resist this dangerous attack on the
family and the church.
A recent fundraising email by homosexual
activists illustrates how determined they are to stop us, and Mike
in particular. Anyone who stands in their way is considered an
enemy - and this includes every pastor and every Christian in Maine
who takes a principled stand against the effort to normalize
homosexuality.
We
must make no mistake about the dangers of the homosexual rights
movement. Nothing less than the institution of marriage and the
family are at stake. And beyond this lies a deeper issue –
faithfulness to God’s word, and obedience to His laws, which can
never be revoked, and which God Himself has told us He will enforce.
As Mike Heath has pointed out, "What at
first glance seems to be a contest of ideas over marriage and the
family, is in reality a spiritual battle against those forces which
would replace truth with error, hope with despair, and light with
darkness."
Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, Mike will
be speaking at the campuses of Bowdoin College and the University of
Maine at Orono to bring the truth of the Bible to our young people.
We hope you will give him your support in this most important
mission.
