AN APPEAL TO CONSCIENCE
“Therefore, seeing we have this ministry,
as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the
hidden things of dishonesty; not walking in craftiness, nor handling
the word of God deceitfully; but, by manifestation of the truth,
commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to them
that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds
of them who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of
Christ, who is the image of God, should shine to them. For we preach
not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your
servants for Jesus' sake.
For God, who commanded the light to shine
out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to give the light of
the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But
we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the
power may be of God, and not from us.”
(2 Corinthians 4:1-10)
A TELLTALE SIGN OF HYPOCRISY
"The louder he spoke of his honor, the
faster we counted our spoons.”
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)
PRO-GAY
FORCES PLAY THE HATE CARD
Fifty-five days before Mainers will be
forced to vote for the third time on an elitist gay rights law, the
chief lobbying group for the law, Maine Won’t Discriminate, and its
director, Ted O’Meara, have decided to play the “hate” card.
Liberals are usually a lot faster in
playing the hate card. Anyone who refuses to go along with their
hidden agenda is quickly labeled a “hater” and a “bigot” – even
though they might be on their knees praying for homosexuals every
day. All the while, gay activists go along their merry way defacing
signs, hacking into websites, and slugging petition gatherers.
Nevertheless, Maine Won’t Discriminate –
who some people have taken to calling “Maine Will Intimidate” - says
that we are the intolerant ones. Anyone who publishes a photo from a
gay pride event is a “hater.” Anyone who says that men should not
show up at work in a feather boa and lipstick is a “hater.” Anyone
who says that men should not use the ladies’ room is a “hater.”
Anyone who says that children can’t have two daddies is a “hater,”
and on and on and on.
But wait a minute! Liberals say that all
conservatives are haters, and that they alone are the loving and
compassionate ones. The really funny thing about MWD’s accusation is
that it probably doesn’t involve homosexuals at all. The real bone
of contention with MWD is what we said about the liberal elites who
are wrecking our society. Their “Stop the Big Bad Boogey Man (Mike
Heath)” e-mail used a quote from one of our items in The RECORD. Did
the quote criticize homosexuals? Hardly. The quote reads: “Sexual
permissiveness, divorce, abortion, and the chaos in New Orleans can
be laid at the liberals' doorstep…" It is this quote they are using
to solicit money from the liberal elite. We thought the item from
which the quote was taken is important enough to be printed again,
and here it is.
We should also point out that in their
mad rush to blame Mike Heath –- much like a bull charging at a red
handkerchief -- MWD never even bothered to check if the Executive
Director of the League was the author of that particular quote. The
segment represented the official opinion of the Christian Civic
League of Maine, much like the editorial in a daily newspaper. And
Mike Heath didn't even write that segment.
LIBERALS SHOWING DEEP INSENSITIVITY
TO THE PAIN OF SOCIETY
Once again, newspapers in Maine are
leveling the charge that The RECORD was being insensitive by saying
Hurricane Katrina was the wrath of God. Yet a careful rereading of
The RECORD will show that no such claim was ever made. In a piece
published on September 6th, The RECORD mentioned Hurricane Katrina
destroyed New Orleans on the same day the “Southern Decadence”
celebration was scheduled, and then concluded that this was no more
than an odd coincidence. But this was not good enough for those in
the liberal mass media who have certain preconceived biases against
the type of people who belong to the League.
But no matter - in the wake of Hurricane
Katrina, a growing number of people are beginning to ask some
extremely hard questions about the liberal establishment. No one is
much concerned about Conservative Christians, since they are about
the only part of American society which has not been blamed for the
hurricane. On the contrary, Conservative Christians have been
praised for their compassion and hard work in the aftermath of the
hurricane. In any case, does anyone imagine that a city government
run by Christians would leave the dams and levees of a city
unprotected, while drunken revelers rampaged through the streets?
Liberals are increasingly being taken to
task for a society which is starting to sway like a house of cards.
Since our modern society was constructed according to their
blueprint, liberals are ultimately to blame if the structure gives
way and collapses. Sexual permissiveness, divorce, abortion, and the
chaos in New Orleans can be laid at their door-step. America is
awakening to the fact that the false ideology of liberalism has
caused an enormous amount of pain. The pain is deepening and
intensifying; and our society, like the levees in New Orleans is
stressed to the breaking point. Yet liberals remain absolutely
oblivious to the pain they have caused. At the same time, they
criticize the League for being insensitive, over a remark it never
made.
There is one thing which liberals do par excellence, and that is to
explain away the obvious. Yesterday The RECORD described how gay
activists reveled in the streets of New Orleans this past Sunday
while untold thousands of bodies remained beneath the flood waters.
Some gay apologists are now saying that this was not really
decadence, but was only decadent in the sense of a “decadent”
chocolate cake or a “decadent” pleasure. They are also saying that
the “Southern Decadence” celebration, although “outlandish” was only
typical of a few gays in New Orleans. Oh, really? Then what about
the bizarre photos from the San Diego parade? Or the bizarrely-clad
marchers in New York City’s annual Gay Pride Parade? Their costumes
– if they bothered to wear any at all - are too vile to be mentioned
here.
No one outside the cultural sphere of influence of the United States
believes that marching down the street naked is something to be
proud of. Outside of America, people see it for what it is – a
society corrupted by wealth and luxury flaunting its depravity. That
leaves only about ten percent of the world’s population who are
snookered by liberals. But the supporters of gay rights are
desperate to have us believe otherwise. They must at all costs
conceal the truth that this sort of depraved behavior at gay pride
events is not an exception, but the norm. All the public will see on
pro-gay rights websites are smiling faces of “monogamous” couples.
The sight of those who marched in the devastated city of New Orleans
and in other gay pride parades is kept carefully out of sight – and
with good reason.
MORAL BANKRUPTCY
The National Coalition against Legalized
Gambling has published an informative study by its director, Dr. Guy
C. Clark. The study entitled “Gambling and Political Corruption”
carefully documents the corrupting effect of legalized gambling on
local and state officials. The study describes in astounding detail
the money which flows into both political parties and the reelection
campaigns of state officials in other states. The corruption which
exists is quite literally beyond belief, with hundreds of millions
of dollars changing hands between the owners of the casinos and
those in local and state government. The casinos in Biloxi,
Mississippi provided $500,000 dollars a day in state tax revenue.
The study can be found at
http://www.ncalg.org, but be prepared for
a shock.
To
quote briefly from the study, “In Missouri, the House Speaker of
fifteen years resigned in 1996 after a federal investigation
produced charges of gambling-related deals. The ex-speaker demanded
that a gambling company funnel payments of $16 million to the
ex-speaker’s business associates and friends in order to obtain a
state casino license. In South Carolina, Rep. Paul Derrick took
$1,000 for his vote on a pari-mutuel betting bill. Derrick, who was
caught red-handed on videotape taking a bribe for his vote, was part
of a core group of legislators in the House of Representatives who
were ready to sell their votes and their support for cash. Seventeen
South Carolina lawmakers had previously been convicted of, or pled
guilty to similar charges in 1992. In Kentucky, an investigation
into bribery surrounding the state’s horse racing industry, resulted
in the conviction or plea-bargaining of fifteen state legislators."
Anyone who believes that the same thing
won’t happen in Maine is fooling himself. The people do have a
chance to fight back. Volunteers and funds are still desperately
needed for the effort to repeal slot machine gambling in Maine
entirely. Call 207-784-0846 to help. Call TODAY! |
