WHO IS GOD, BUT THE LORD?
“With the pure, You show Yourself pure.
With the sinful You show Yourself to be against them. You save
those who are suffering, but You bring low those who have pride
in their eyes. You make my lamp bright. The Lord my God lights
my darkness. With Your help I can go against many soldiers. With
my God I can jump over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect. The
Word of the Lord has stood the test. He is a covering for all
who go to Him for a safe place. For Who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock except our God? It is God Who covers me with
strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the
feet of a deer. And He sets me on my high places. He teaches me
how to fight, so that I can use a bow of brass.
You have also given me the covering
that saves me. Your right hand holds me up. And Your care has
made me great. You make the road wide for my steps, and my feet
have not tripped. I went after those who fight against me, and
caught them. And I did not return until they were destroyed.
I hit them so they were not able to
rise. They fell under my feet.
You have given me strength for war. You have put under me those
who have fought against me. You have made them turn their backs
to me also.”
(Psalm 18:26-40)
Congratulations to Sean Heath, son of
Michael Heath, for receiving his Eagle, Globe, and Anchor as he
graduated yesterday from basic training at Parris Island.
QUOTATIONS FOR THE DAY
"Abash'd the Devil stood, and felt how
awful goodness is, and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely."
"A thankful heart is not only the
greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues."
(Cicero)
"Moderation in temper is always a
virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice."
(Thomas Paine)
THE NEED TO TURN BACK
“The shadow on your life came not from
God’s turning, but from your own. Is night the turning away of
the sun? No; night is the shadow cast by the turning away of our
little earth from its great bright sun. And what is winter but
the tipping away of our northern regions from the sun, till we
shiver in slant, scant rays? The sun does not bank his fires nor
grudge his radiance in December. Our bent is the trouble. When
we turn again, our springtime comes with the singing of birds
and the leap of life. Turn back! With your face toward the
Father of Lights, all shadows fall behind you.”
(Maltbie Davenport Babcock)
WHERE’S THE BEEF?
“Maine Citizens are too smart, and will see right through the
latest attempt by Maine Won’t Discriminate to perpetuate their
myth of rampant discrimination based on homosexual orientation
at yesterday’s press conference,” said Mike Heath, Executive
Director of the Christian Civic League. He went on to say,
“While we deplore and condemn discrimination, what was really
displayed yesterday was nothing more than harassment and
ridicule - which we also maintain is uncalled for in today’s
society. Careful analysis of what transpired yesterday, and the
report written by Steve Wessler clearly prove what our position
has been all along – this radical law is not needed.”
The two men who stepped forward at the
press conference to describe their situation regarding
employment both had jobs. They were hired, not denied jobs based
on their sexual orientation; so they were not discriminated
against in employment. Now what transpired on the job is another
story. Both men claim they were fired because of their sexual
orientation, but we have yet to hear what the employers have to
say, and what caused the terminations. Adding sexual orientation
to the Human Rights Act will greatly accelerate claims like
this, and employers will be in a legal quagmire, unable to
terminate anyone for good cause; all they have to do is claim
discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The young man who stepped forward and
said he was “hassled” at Belfast High School for wearing a shirt
that said, "It's OK to be gay", should have turned to the U.S.
Constitution or the Maine State Constitution for his protected
status. It is a right we all have – the right to free speech.
His right to wear that shirt is already protected by these two
legal instruments under the heading of “free speech.” Do we
really need or want a third law on the books to protect freedom
of speech? – by Tim Russell

CORRECTION
The RECORD incorrectly stated on
Wednesday that it is the addition of the phrase "sexual
orientation" which makes the current sexual orientation law so
radical. It is in fact the addition of the phrase "gender
identity or expression" which is of concern. Fifteen states
have sexual orientation laws. Only five states have laws which
include "gender identity and expression." The other states in
New England have sexual orientation laws, but Maine is now the
only state which has a law covering "gender identity and
expression," which of course includes transgenderism.
