"Fearful lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its identity. . . ."
--Leszek Kolakowski, from Modernity on Endless Trial

THE SPIRIT IS LIFE

“But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

(Romans 8:9-11)

QUOTATIONS FOR THE DAY

"Give light, and the darkness will disappear on its own.”

(Erasmus)

“Joy is prayer - Joy is strength - Joy is love - Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls.”

(Mother Teresa)

“Joy, temperance, and repose, slam the door on the doctor's nose.”

(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

 WHAT’S THE MISSING WORD?

In a television ad by Maine Won’t Discriminate, which is now airing, every word is clear and distinct except one. As the voice-over tells of threats and discrimination, a woman’s voice is heard to say “Certain inn-keepers discriminate against us because of our – “and then a word is mentioned which sounds like “Sexual Orien -”  then the sound ends abruptly. Ironically, the name of the ad is called “Voices.”

The addition of the phrase “sexual orientation” is of course what makes the current law the broadest and most radical gay rights law in the nation. Could it be that the producers of the Maine Won’t Discriminate ad wanted to include the phrase “sexual orientation” to please the gay rights movement, but decided to leave it out because of its impact on the public? We wonder.

NEW HAMPSHIRE COMMISSION SAYS NO
TO ALL ASPECTS OF GAY MARRIAGE

In a surprising development, the New Hampshire commission established to study the advisability of same-sex marriage has rejected all aspects of same-sex marriage, and has come out strongly in favor of traditional values. The commission is advising state lawmakers not to permit same-sex marriage or to acknowledge marriages concluded outside the state as legal. Also, the commission is recommending that the New Hampshire constitution be amended so that marriage can be only between one man and one woman. The recommendation to amend the constitution passed by a vote of 7 to 4.

In the wake of this setback for the gay rights lobby, accusations of homophobia and even hatred are being directed against members of the commission. Once again, those who refuse to cave in to the homosexual agenda by accepting that homosexual acts and same-sex marriage are normal are branded as bigots and haters.

OXFORD HILLS STUDENT
TAKES A STAND FOR
FAMILY VALUES

Mathew Duplissis, an 11th grader at Oxford Hills Christian Academy proudly wears his “Vote Yes on Question One” bumper sticker.  He does not even have a car, and his mother won’t allow him to put it on hers. His sister won’t let him put the bumper sticker on her car for fear of vandalism.

Matt wears the bumper sticker because he wants others to know where he stands on the issue.  He believes that people his age should stand up for what they believe.

Matt is seen everywhere - at the movies, Wal-Mart, and at the public library. More people probably notice his bumper sticker than they do the bumper stickers on cars.

Matt learned about the issue at the end of the school year last May when his pastor, Rev. Dallas Henry gave him a copy of the Governor’s sexual orientation law.  After reading the law, he decided it was bad for Maine.   Matt can’t vote yet, since he won’t turn   eighteen until December. But he is encouraging everyone to vote “Yes” on Question One, this Nov. 8th.

“YES on 1” MESSAGE
APPEARING ON CHURCH SIGNS

The League is expecting that more than a few churches are going to take a stand for family values and the Word of God.  The South Somerville Baptist Church has already made its views known by placing the words “Yes on 1” on its church sign.

One other church we know of has already decided to do the same, and we expect there will be several more.
