"Fearful lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its identity. . . ."

ONE ON GOD’S SIDE IS A MAJORITY

ETERNAL VIGILANCE IS THE PRICE OF LIBERTY

“ALL EYES ARE ON MAINE” -- by Michael S. Heath

After countless hours of preparation, late night sessions, and state-wide campaign tours, the day to vote has at last arrived. For those who worked so arduously on the campaign, the day arrived sooner than they expected. The members of the Christian Civic League, the Coalition for Marriage, and the Maine Grassroots Coalition have worked with a sense of urgency, the type of urgency that arises in a moment of deep crisis. That is where we find ourselves today.

Our featured speaker at the League banquet this year made a startling prediction. Rabbi Daniel Lapin of the organization “Towards Tradition” said that if we lose the battle against the homosexual rights movement, it would mean the end of Western civilization. To many that sounds like empty hyperbole, a ridiculous exaggeration. It is not. Rabbi Lapin works with a historical tradition that stretches back six thousand years, a tradition which has seen hundreds of civilizations come and go. We should not take his words lightly. The steady progress towards homosexual marriage is not a modern development, but one which has been repeated many times throughout history, each time in a civilization on the verge of collapse.

Rabbi Lapin also said that the West still had time to come to its senses. He said that Maine would play a crucial role in the struggle to preserve marriage and the family. “Come November 8th,” he said, “the eyes of the nation would be upon us.”

Well, November 8th is here. Today we go to the polls not to cast just another vote, to elect just another official, or to vote on just another proposition. We go to vote so that the institution of marriage and the family will not be wrenched from our arms.

Today, no expenditure of effort on our part can be too great, for we are defending not just a political ideal or a moral principle. Today we are defending society itself; and in the process we are making history.

MAINE STATE EMPLOYEES UNION ENDORSES “NO” VOTE --
AND A UNION MEMBER RESPONDS

The RECORD has received a copy of a recent letter to the Maine State Employees Union regarding their endorsement of a “No” vote on Question One. The letter sums up many of the reasons why concerned citizens should vote “YES” today on Question One.

To Whom It May Concern:

I’m writing this to file a complaint about the mailings that this union sends me telling me how I’m supposed to vote.  I’m also complaining because my dues are being used to pay for things that I don’t approve of.  I would appreciate it if you would take me off your voting mailing list.  I told that to one of your people when they tried to tell me how to vote during the presidential election.  Your job as a union is to handle workplace issues, not telling people how to vote.

Telling me to vote no on ‘1’ is improper and against God’s laws.  We’ve shot this down before, but the governor is more interested in the money that he thinks won’t come into this state if this is shot down again.  The majority of the people in this state do not want this.  Now before you go off half cocked, let me tell you that I have worked with ‘gays’ and “lesbians’ since I started working about fifty years ago.  I’ve never known of one that was discriminated against.  They’ve had good jobs, homes, schooling, overseas traveling, etc.  But the difference is that they didn’t try to push their lifestyle onto those that know they are living a life in violation of God’s law.  They didn’t try to get in the schools and warp the minds of the young.  They didn’t go out and protest in a hateful manner with destruction on their minds.  They didn’t do everything that they are doing now, including filing false complaints and lying about what is being done to them.

I work in law enforcement and I’ve found that they are anything but gay.  They are constantly assaulting each other, finding another partner and going through it all over again.  I’ve seen some with their third or forth partner and still being involved in assaulting their partners.

Christians do not hate the ‘gays’ and ‘lesbians,’ they hate their lifestyle.  They will have to answer to God for their lifestyle.  Check out the following verse in the Bible, if you’re not afraid to find out that you are wrong in what you are doing.

Leviticus 18:22: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”

WOMEN AND WIVES PRESS CONFERENCE A GREAT SUCCESS

The “Women and Wives” press conference at the State House yesterday left many commenting how important a part women are going to play in the vote on Question One.
About thirty women involved in the campaign assembled on the second floor of the State House Hall of Flags to show their support for the Vote “”YES” on Question One position.

Paulie Heath, wife of Michael Heath spoke first, and gave her reasoning why a YES vote is the truly compassionate thing to do for those who are concerned about their families, their children, and the state.

Anna Schrimpay of Sagadahoc County spoke next about the profound effect current law will have on children in the public schools, harming the development of their sexual identity, as they are exposed to transgendered teachers.

Pat Truman warned of the thirty different sexual orientations covered under the law, and how sexual perversion will be “unleashed on the public.”  Mrs. Truman pointed out the difference between authentic Catholic teaching on the subject and “fuzzy feel good thinking.”

Wendy Penney of Norridgewock gave a rousing conclusion by pointing out how the law will lead to reverse discrimination and frivolous lawsuits.

At the close of the press conference Paul Madore, leader of the Maine Grassroots Coalition, asked the group how they were going to vote on Question One and they answered with a resounding “YES!”

WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST

The League received this e-mail yesterday on the eve of the vote on Question One.

“I do not appreciate having [this material] sent to me through the post. I am an atheist and also would appreciate you not trying to shove your beliefs down my throat. We are evolved through primates and not through intelligent design. THERE IS NO GOD.”

MAINE GRASSROOTS COALITION URGES POLL WATCHING

Concerned about voter fraud Paul Madore is urging citizens to poll watch at their town halls tomorrow.  Any registered voter in Maine has the right to challenge the vote of any individual who they deem to be suspicious.  For more information about how to poll watch please call the Maine Grassroots Coalition at 784-0846.
