"Fearful
lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity
seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being
devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact
self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming
the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its
identity. . . ."

Washington, the brave, the wise, the good,
Supreme in war, in council, and in peace,
Valiant without ambition, discreet without fears,
Confident without presumption.
In disaster calm; in success moderate;
in all himself.
The hero, the patriot, the Christian.
The father of nations, the friend of mankind,
Who, when he had won all, renounced all,
And sought in the bosom of his family
And of nature, retirement,
And in the hope of religion, immortality.

After two resounding defeats at the ballot box,
the backers of the gay rights movement are
desperate to create the impression that public
opinion is in their favor. On Friday, The Portland
Press Herald ran a story on a poll by Strategic
Marketing Services which stated that 60% of the
public favors Governor Baldacci’s gay rights law.
The paper incorrectly stated that the poll
suggests that if the vote were held today, the gay
rights law would remain in effect. But this is a
blatant falsehood. The opinion poll by Strategic
Marketing Services includes a disclaimer stating
that the survey in no way predicts the outcome of
the vote. Instead, the opinion poll was meant as a
snapshot of current opinion.
On the same day the Portland Press Herald ran the
story about the opinion poll results,
three letters appeared on their editorial page in
support of the law. Not a single letter expressed
the opposite opinion. What the Portland Press
Herald didn’t tell its readers however, was that
the paper was a corporate sponsor of the 2005
Equality Maine Awards Banquet, the same banquet
which honored David Hilton for his efforts to have
the Boy Scouts banned from distributing literature
or recruiting new members in the Portland schools.
Which leads us to ask, can a newspaper be fair and
impartial if it backs one side financially? What
other information is the Portland Press Herald
withholding from its readers? How responsible is a
newspaper that tries to create a bandwagon effect
by printing the results of an opinion poll, and
then prints letters to the editor which exclude
any dissenting opinion? Is this news or
propaganda?
But the Portland Press Herald knows full well that
public opinion polls are used by newspapers to
create public opinion, not to measure it. It is
very rare indeed when any mainstream liberal
newspaper will print the results of a public
opinion poll which contradicts the point the
newspaper is trying to put across.
And as the Portland Press Herald and the elite
corporate interests who back the radical
homosexual agenda will find out in November, the
only opinion poll that counts will be the one at
the ballot box.

Despite their efforts to reach out to homosexuals,
Evangelicals are persistently labeled as
“intolerant” and “hateful.” This unfair
characterization of their position is always the
result of misunderstanding and miscommunication.
But there can be no mistaking the hatred and
intolerance which was recently directed at James
Hartline, a pro-family reformer in San Diego.
Hartline, who had left the homosexual lifestyle
after becoming a born again Christian, was the
individual who revealed that five convicted
pedophiles had helped organize the San Diego gay
pride events this year. In response, one website
run by radical Lesbians called for the elimination
of Hartline in the following terms:
"Now is the time to come together, to reconcile
our differences that we all tout and to once again
march under the same banner. The moment was never
riper for the San Diego (LGBT) community to push
for the elimination and suppression of the James
Hartlines of the world. We currently have an
openly lesbian interim mayor of San Diego and an
openly gay mayor of Chula Vista; PEOPLE....WE are
in POWER! WE are IN CHARGE!"
Earlier, Hartline received an e-mail from a San
Diego city employee which read:
“I understand you have AIDS. Thank God! I hope you
die soon!”
A letter from a Lesbian published in the San Diego
“Gay and Lesbian Times,” cruelly mocked Hartline
by calling him a woman:
“Miss Hartline strikes again! Former prison
inmate, drug addict and thief James Hartline by
her own admission spent 19 years incarcerated has
now found Jesus. And Jesus told Miss Hartline to
stir up trouble for "sinful" Hillcrest homosexuals
where she can.
Hartline's latest effort was the controversy
regarding pride volunteers. Previously she
convinced the Catholic Bishop to deny a funeral
for a gay club owner. She's trying to close down
Rainbow Road and the Obelisk Bookstore. She's
involved in every anti-gay cause.
Although she's living on disability she claims she
spends 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week in her
trouble-stirring activities. Now I ask, if she can
spend all that time stirring trouble, shouldn't
she be able to hold down a job? Miss Hartline
needs to get a life of her own. Instead, her sole
purpose seems to be creating problems for others.”
Strange words indeed, for those who march under
the banner of “tolerance” and “understanding.” But
what is strangest of all, is that James Hartline,
who was formerly incarcerated, has received death
threats by phone from an individual now identified
as a retired judge.
