"Fearful
lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity
seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being
devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact
self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming
the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its
identity. . . ."

QUOTATIONS OF THE DAY
"The plague of mankind is the fear of diversity,
monotheism, monarchy, monogamy... The belief that
there is only one right way to live, only one
right way to regulate religious, political,
sexual, medical affairs is the root cause of the
greatest threat to man: members of his own
species, bent on ensuring his salvation, security,
and sanity."
"I favor free trade in drugs for the same reason
the Founding Fathers favored free trade in ideas:
in a free society it is none of the government's
business what ideas a man puts into his mind;
likewise, it should be none of its business what
drugs he puts into his body."
(Thomas Szasz)
[The ACLU gives an annual Thomas Szasz Award to
those it says have made a significant contribution
to civil liberties.]

The startling reversal in San Diego’s attitude
towards the gay rights movement resulted in part
from the revelation that several convicted
pedophiles were working in the city’s “gay pride”
festival and parade. The city, for the first time
in ten years, moved quickly to withhold its
support for “Gay Pride” week. But that was not
all. For the first time in decades, the city moved
to close down various homosexual events, including
a “Mr. Nude San Diego” and an “Ebony Pride” event
in a San Diego park, at which children attended.
Credit for the remarkable reversal of San Diego’s
attitude toward homosexual activism must be given
to James Hartline, a born again Christian who left
the homosexual lifestyle. Hartline turned the tide
against homosexual activism by presenting
convincing proof that the homosexual subculture is
not as wholesome as its advocates claim. Hartline
was the one who discovered that five convicted
pedophiles were part of the San Diego gay pride
event by matching up the names in the official
brochure for the event with those listed on
California’s Megan’s Law website.
Though many may be unaware of the fact, Maine also
has a sex offender registry, which is part of a
Maine government website,
http://www.informe.org. The website is an
eye-opener, to say the least. Who would ever
imagine that in the tiny town of Hallowell, just
outside Augusta, there are ten registered sex
offenders, or that in the Augusta area, there are
ninety? Many of the offenders have multiple
convictions. Fast-food restaurants seem to be a
favored place of employment. One fast-food
restaurant employee has twelve convictions, and
one popular trendy restaurant and bar has three
employees who are listed on Maine’s sex offender
registry. Waterville has 38 convicted sex
offenders listed; Lewiston 95; and Portland 120.
Among those listed are individuals convicted of
kidnapping and rape. The most frightening sex
offenders are those convicted of serious sex
crimes in other states who have relocated here.
It was only last week that The RECORD reported
that the rate of rape in Augusta is twice the
national average. Although Maine has a
well-deserved reputation for safety and
neighborliness, it is becoming increasingly
important in a time of sexual permissiveness and
rampant sexual crime to know who your neighbors
are - at all times. Clearly, this was the
intention of our state government in setting up
the website. You can learn more by going to the
website listed below.

Be sure to plan to attend the upcoming League
banquet in October. This year’s event promises to
be the most exciting ever, with a keynote speech
to be delivered by Rabbi Daniel Lapin of the
organization “Towards Tradition.” Rabbi Lapin is
an outspoken defender of traditional values and
the family, and a strong critic of the values of
secular humanism.
The theme of the event is Micah 6:8 “He hath shown
thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD
require of thee, but to do justly, and to love
mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
In view of the need at this critical hour in our
nation’s history for Christians to start speaking
with a prophetic voice, the League will offer
tables named after the prophets of the Old
Testament. Tables can be sponsored at the
following levels:
Jeremiah: $1000 includes a table with seating and
meals for eight to ten people, and a signed copy
of Rabbi Lapin's book for each person.
Jonah: $500 includes a table with seating and
meals for eight to ten people.
Daniel: $250 includes a half table with seating
and meals for four to five people.
In addition, the League will hold its annual
awards ceremony, and music will be provided by
Paulie Heath.
Seating will be limited, so please make
arrangements early.
The banquet will be held at the Senator Inn in
Augusta on October 7th, starting at 6:00.
