"Fearful
lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity
seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being
devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact
self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming
the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its
identity. . . ."

Conference to Emphasize Compassionate

The city of San Diego is apparently getting cold
feet when it comes to the matter of gay rights.
After refusing to issue its annual proclamation in
support of the city's 'Gay Pride' events for the
first time in ten years, the city council quickly
moved to shut down a number of events sponsored by
the homosexual community. The reason was that the
city council rightly concluded that these events,
by pandering to the worst and most depraved
aspects of human nature, were simply a threat to
the public welfare.
Particularly disturbing to the city fathers of San
Diego was the recent revelation that a convicted
pedophile, Martin Ramirez, who appears on
California’s Megan's Law website, worked for years
at the Children’s Garden of the San Diego Gay
Pride Festival as “Marty the Clown.” According to
The James Hartline Report, this same Martin
Ramirez was hired by an agency promoting the
adoption of children by gay and lesbian couples to
hold children’s events at the organization.
Many are now saying that San Diego’s actions are
part of a growing nationwide backlash against
homosexual activism and the hidden agenda of the
gay rights movement.
On Monday, The RECORD published a link to a
website which had photos of the San Diego “Gay
Pride” parade, but the photos were subsequently
removed. Since then, the photos have appeared on
another website, which you can go to by clicking
on the link below.
The reader is strongly cautioned that the images
are shocking, but the need for the public to
finally learn the truth about the gay rights
movement compels us to bring the evidence of the
extremely bizarre behavior typical of ‘gay pride’
parades out into the open.

Few people these days will recall that the name
‘Hollywood’ was first given to an orchard on the
outskirts of Los Angeles. The name ‘Hollywood’
only became famous after the orchard was sold to
enterprising film moguls from Chicago and New York
City. The trees were leveled; the orchard was
paved over, and the once rural landscape quickly
became just another urban eyesore. Hollywood
Orchard was selected by the movie moguls because
of its convenient location to Mexico. Thomas
Edison owned all the patent rights to the movies,
and the movie producers knew that if someone from
back East arrived with an arrest warrant or
subpoena, they could make a hasty escape across
the border into Mexico.
The transformation of Hollywood Orchard and Los
Angeles into a burgeoning metropolis happened with
stunning rapidity. In 1870 there were only fifteen
thousand inhabitants; in 1900, one-hundred
thousand; in 1920, over one million; in 1998, over
nine million.
A recent editorial in the Portland Press Herald
pointed out the folly of a tourism study which
claimed Maine is lacking in nightlife. More
nightlife, The Portland Press Herald said, would
actually damage tourism in Maine. The Portland
Press Herald, which usually pushes for the
transformation of Maine into an urban,
cosmopolitan society, was right to recognize the
uniqueness of Maine, and its need to shun the
nightlife of the big city – if only for mercenary
motives.
Yet big city nightlife has already arrived in
Maine! The worst example of such nightlife we can
think of is “Hollywood Slots” in Bangor which will
be open each and every night into the wee hours of
the morning. The sign for “Hollywood Slots” - as
you can see from the photo on the right - is a
tacky urban eyesore, better suited for the Las
Vegas Strip, than for the Queen City. Two blocks
down is a tattoo parlor. Is that part of Bangor,
two blocks from Union Street Brick Church, already
being transformed into a seedy red light district?
Perhaps it is, thanks to big city gambling
interests from away.
But the people of Maine have an opportunity to
preserve their way of life. They can fight back
through a citizen’s initiative WHICH WILL BAN ALL
SLOT MACHINES IN MAINE. We urge you to contact No
Slots for Maine, by clicking on the link below.
Volunteers and donations are urgently needed as
the campaign to collect signatures for an October
4th deadline is well underway.
Don’t take it lying down, Maine – FIGHT BACK!

Does The RECORD Have a Pro-Maine Bias?
Dear Editor:
In his eagerness to make his point about
"Incomparably lovely Maine" Arthur G. Staples
didn't have to denigrate other equally unique
parts of our great nation to make his point. I've
seen both the "weary sage-brush" and "dull, dreary
stretches of the sea of corn-fields of the West,"
and each has attributes that are comparable to, or
even exceed, certain aspects of pastures in
Maine... vista views of spectacular sunsets come
to mind! Indeed, the beauty of Maine stands on its
own, as do the other works of our Creator God with
which He has blessed our "America the Beautiful."
Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, but
it should not be at the expense of beauty beheld
by others.
This week our granddaughter is visiting with us
from Iowa. It's smack dab in the middle of
corn-field country. So as not to upset her, I'll
be careful to keep the Staples quote to myself.

Dear Reader:
The RECORD agrees wholeheartedly with your
comments on the item about Maine pastures by
Arthur G. Staples which appeared in the August
12th RECORD.
That was merely the opinion of the writer, not
ours. Our editor was also disturbed by the remark
about the cornfields. America is indeed a blessed
land, and it is not fair to say that any one part
of it is better than the other. No sight in
America is more moving than the wheat fields and
cornfields of the Midwest.
We note that this is the part of America which the
media call “Fly-over country.” Others call it the
“Heartland.” We prefer to think of it as another
part of "God’s Country."
We did not intend to demean any part of America by
publishing the item by Arthur G. Staples.
