"Fearful
lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity
seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being
devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact
self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming
the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its
identity. . . ."

The virtue of a spider’s web is its invisibility.
If it were a bit larger or a bit darker, it might
be seen in time to be avoided. So it is that
organizations which go by the name of ‘peace and
justice’ often pursue an agenda which is quite
different from the one they advertise to the
public. Hidden behind the noble-sounding names of
‘peace and justice” lurk the destructive doctrines
of the Far Left, long recognized by most of the
world as bogus, but sanitized, touched up, and
repackaged to escape the notice of a new
generation of dupes.
Such an organization is the ROSC, or Resources for
Organizing Social Change, a homegrown group which
hopes to radically transform our society. The name
formerly given to the group, INVERT, (The
Institute for Nonviolent Education Research and
Training) is an indication of what its founders
have in mind for the people of Maine. Their
website lists a number of liberal causes, but the
cause it gives the most prominence to is the
effort to change Thanksgiving into a “National Day
of Mourning,” presumably because of the crimes of
the Pilgrim Fathers. Quite an inversion indeed!
The goal which drives the ROSC is the classless
society. The ROSC regularly holds workshops and
talks on the subject of ending “classism.” The
ROSC is an affiliate of the War Resisters League,
one of four groups which are the most active in
holding anti-war demonstrations across the
country. The War Resisters League is itself an
affiliate of the International War Resisters
League, an organization which has worked hand and
hand with various Far Left movements since the
1920s.
The focus of the ROSC is grassroots organizing. It
publishes a “Changing Maine Directory” which lists
virtually every left-wing and New Age Group in
Maine. “Changing Maine” is also the name of the
annual conference the ROSC holds in Augusta.
The website of the ROSC claims that the ROSC and
its staff members helped start both the Peace and
Justice Center of Eastern Maine, and MaineShare.
MaineShare, which has its headquarters at the Pine
Tree State Arboretum in Augusta, is an extremely
powerful coalition of left-wing organizations, and
includes among its members the Equality Maine
Foundation, the state’s largest pro-homosexual
group, Maine Equal Justice, the MCLU, The Natural
Resources Council of Maine, the Maine Womens
Lobby, and many more.
MaineShare was the first organization other than
The United Way to run a state employee charity
campaign. Since 1996, MaineShare has had a
contract with the state to collect money from
state employees for the purpose of charitable
giving.
According to the website of MaineShare, it raised
$439,176 dollars from state employees in 2001.
Separate from its efforts to raise funds for
charity, MaineShare raised $1,230,000 for its
member organizations since its creation in 1989.
