"Fearful lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its identity. . . ."
--Leszek Kolakowski, from Modernity on Endless Trial

Dignity of Man
QUOTATION OF THE DAY

"Let the pulpit resound with the doctrine and sentiments of religious liberty. Let us hear of the dignity of man's nature, and the noble rank he holds among the works of God.... Let it be known that British liberties are not the grants of princes and parliaments."

(John Adams)

Incomparably lovely Maine
“Maine pastures are incomparably lovely but mostly unappreciated. We scarcely know how rare they are. Think of the weary sage-brush or the dull, dreary stretches of the sea of corn-fields of the West. But by the side of these the Maine pasture is Heaven. And such sunsets! From a Maine pasture they pick up new glories. Even the sea is trivial and the mountain-top is melodrama as compared with the perfect setting of the simple pastoral to the watcher of the skies, with pillowed head upon the knoll beneath the whispering pine as the sun sinks slowly down in glory!

No wonder the psalmist sang of them – the pastures of Heaven 'He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters; he restoreth my soul.'”

(Arthur G. Staples)

Down East Magazine Runs Story on Mike Heath
One month after profiling Senator Susan Collins, Down East Magazine is running a story about Mike Heath, Executive Director of the League.

The impression people are getting from the story is overwhelmingly favorable. Mike Heath’s leadership in helping Maine hold back the tide of homosexual activism is presented fairly; and the article even asks readers to decide if Mike Heath is the representative of a bygone past, or if he is, in fact, “mapping the future of Maine.”

We think he is. By resisting the repeated efforts of the Governor and the Legislature to impose an elite agenda on the state, he has shown that traditional values are a real alternative to the misguided policies which have done so much damage to our state and nation.

Congratulations to Mike Heath on appearing in Down East Magazine!

League Banquet Promises to Be Best Ever

Be sure to plan to attend the upcoming League banquet in October. This year’s event promises to be the most exciting ever, with a keynote speech to be delivered by Rabbi Daniel Lapin of the organization “Towards Tradition.” Rabbi Lapin is an outspoken defender of traditional values and the family, and a strong critic of the values of secular humanism.

The theme of the event is Micah 6:8 “He hath shown thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

In view of the need at this critical hour in our nation’s history for Christians to start speaking with a prophetic voice, the League will offer tables named after the prophets of the Old Testament. Tables can be sponsored at the following levels:

Jeremiah: $1000 includes a table with seating and meals for eight to ten people, and a signed copy of Rabbi Lapin's book for each person.

Jonah: $500 includes a table with seating and meals for eight to ten people.

Daniel: $250 includes a half table with seating and meals for four to five people.

In addition, the League will hold its annual awards ceremony, and music will be provided by Paulie Heath.

Seating will be limited, so please make arrangements early.

The banquet will be held at the Senator Inn in Augusta on October 7th, starting at 6:00.
