"Fearful lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its identity. . . ."
--Leszek Kolakowski, from Modernity on Endless Trial

The Value of Old Friends

“Forsake not an old friend; for the new is not comparable to him: a new friend is as new wine; when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure.”

True Wealth
QUOTATIONS OF THE DAY

"The self-sufficient man is the richest among men.”

(Menander)

“He who is content with little is the wealthiest of men, since those who are rich and not satisfied are ever wanting more, and thus are still in need."

(Plutarch)

Priest Says Maine Grassroots Coalition Was Too Close to His Church
In the closing days of the Peoples Veto petition drive, a petition circulator was asked to leave his site in front of St. Mary’s church on Western Avenue in Augusta. The priest who asked him to leave, Father Louis Phillips, later explained that it was a violation of diocesan policy to allow any political activity on or near church property.

Which is all well and good, were it not for the simple fact that the sidewalk where the petition circulator’s table was located is a public way. Also complicating the matter is the fact that the petition circulator claims Father Phillips verbally accosted him, creating an unpleasant scene which embarrassed him in front of several people – enough so that he was forced to leave. Paul Madore, Director of the Maine Grassroots Coalition, subsequently wrote Father Phillips objecting strongly that he had used intimidation to discourage others – in particular his parishioners - from exercising their First Amendment rights, among which is the right to “peaceably assemble and petition on public property.”

Fed Up with Decadence and Perversion, City of San Diego Cancels Nude Event
One week after refusing to issue its usual ‘Gay Pride Week’ proclamation. The City of San Diego finally took a stand for decency by shutting down the illegal “Mr. Nude San Diego” event. The first member of the public to receive the news was James Hartline, The RECORD’s correspondent in San Diego. The day before, Hartline had testified before the city council about the need to shut down San Diego’s gay bathhouses – spawning grounds for the horrible disease known as AIDs.

Hartline, who was led out of the homosexual lifestyle by accepting Christ as his personal savior, has become something of a miracle worker in San Diego, having played a role in convincing San Diego not to issue its ‘Gay Pride’ Proclamation for the first time in ten years. Hartline also convinced the city not to allow children to be exposed to nudist events at local ice-skating rinks sponsored by an organization known as “Naturally California.” Hartline also helped shut down two porn stores located in San Diego’s gay community, and brought pressure to bear on another porn store located across from an elementary school in San Diego. It seems the city fathers of San Diego are finally catching on that the homosexual subculture is not about tolerance and rights, but about immoral and harmful behavior.

Correction to Story on Banning of the 'Common Sense Independent'
The RECORD wishes to correct a story we ran yesterday pertaining to the banning of the
newspaper “The Common Sense Independent.” We incorrectly stated that it had been banned from welfare offices in Bangor and Orono. The newspaper was banned only from offices in Bangor.

In addition, we incorrectly stated that Sally Scofield was a DHS employee at the time of Logan Marr’s death. Scofield was a DHS employee at the time of Logan Marr’s placement, but not at the time of Logan Marr’s death.
