"Fearful
lest it be relegated to the position of an isolated sect, Christianity
seems to be making frenzied efforts at mimicry in order to escape being
devoured by its enemies--a reaction that seems defensive, but is in fact
self-destructive. In the hope of saving itself, it seems to be assuming
the colors of its environment, but the result is that it loses its
identity. . . ."

“Does not God give us all things
good? Where did you get all
those things in your possession?
- those things that you give,
which you refuse to give, which
you keep, and which you take
unjustly? Where did the infinity
of things that please the eye,
delight the ear, or give
pleasure to the mind come from?
From where is the abundance that
supplies our luxury? For not
only are our needs provided for,
but we are even pampered unto
delicacy. From where do we have
so many trees, bearing so many
kinds of delicious fruits, so
many wholesome herbs for the
maintenance of our health, such
a variety of food answering unto
the seasons of the whole year,
so that even an idle man can
find enough food to nourish
him?”
(Seneca)

THE MAINE CHILDREN'S ALLIANCE
To judge by appearances, The
Maine Children’s Alliance is a
very wholesome-looking
organization. Yet underlying The
Maine Children’s Alliance is the
belief that society as a whole -
government, child care centers,
behavioral psychologists and
medical health care
professionals - should take over
certain functions otherwise
performed by the family. The
organization, which is headed by
Ellie Goldberg, seeks to promote
the welfare of children, but
only within a framework of a
Brave New World of social
engineering. It is far from
clear, however, that children
and families will benefit when
society as a whole appropriates
the role of the family. As the
role of government in
child-rearing increases, the
role of the family diminishes in
proportion - which is of course
a primary objective of socialism
and the Left.
The Maine Children's Alliance
has been a vocal supporter of
the state providing physical,
dental and mental health care
through so called “School Based
Health Care” (SBHC) centers.
There are currently twenty-six
such SBHC centers in Maine. The
SBHC centers are based on a
model developed by The Center
for Health and Health Care in
Schools at The George Washington
University School of Public
Health and Health Services. SBHC
centers are currently operating
in forty-five states. Maine
Children’s Alliance was the lead
agency when the cost
effectiveness of SBHC was
evaluated statewide in 2003.
According to the instructions
given to nurses for pregnant
students, a school nurse may (or
may not) recommend abortion:
“If the student has not decided
whether or not to keep the
pregnancy, the school nurse may
assist the student with
developing a method of decision
making, providing unbiased
information on all options and
referrals as appropriate.”
http://www.maine.gov/education/sh/documents/Adolescentpregnancy.doc
The SBHC may also provide other
“Reproductive Health Services.”

The Maine Children’s Alliance
also speaks approvingly of a
project conducted by The
University of North Carolina in
which children as young as six
weeks became the subjects of
full-time educational programs.
Also, the emphasis is on greater
intervention, through child care
centers, and mental health care
professionals in the early life
of the child.
On the fringe of such movements,
are organizations such as “Zero
to Three” headed by Dr. Joy
Osofsky, which call for the
mental health screening of
infants.

Woe for the Baron and his
knights so strong,
When the cruel cannon-balls laid
‘em all along;
He was taken prisoner, he was
cast in thrall,
And Iron – Cold Iron – was
master of it all!
Yet his King spoke kindly (ah,
how kind a Lord!)
“What if I release you now and
give you back your sword?”
“No!” said the Baron “mock not
my fall,
For Iron – Cold Iron – is master
of men all.”
“Tears are for the cowards,
prayers are for the clowns,
Halters for the silly neck, that
cannot keep a crown.”
As my loss is grievous, so my
hope is small,
For Iron – Cold Iron – must be
master of men all.”
Yet his king made answer (for
such Kings there be!)
“Here is Bread and here is Wine
– sit and dine with me.
Eat and drink in Mary’s name,
the while I do recall
How Iron – Cold Iron – can be
master of men all!”
He took the Wine and blessed it.
He blessed and broke the Bread,
With His own Hands He served
Them, and presently He said:
“See! These Hands they pierced
with nails, outside My city
wall, show Iron – Cold Iron – to
be master of men all.”
“Wounds are for the desperate,
blows are for the strong.
Balm and oil for weary hearts
all cut and bruised with wrong.
I forgive thy treason- I redeem
thy fall –
For Iron – Cold Iron – must be
master of men all!”
“Crowns are for the valiant –
scepters for the bold!
Thrones and powers for mighty
men who dare to take and hold!"
“No!” said the Baron, kneeling
in his hall,
“But Iron - Cold Iron - is
master of men all!”
Iron out of Calvary is master of
men all!”
(Rudyard Kipling)
