Dan Riley has been lobstering in Maine since he was ten years old.

Dan's Petition

by Fritz Spencer

Augusta -- Many people have observed how the Governor’s vision for the future is radically out of step with the people of Maine. Governor Baldacci’s State of the State Address presented a vision of an urbanized, high tech Maine that will look no different from Boston, New York, or San Francisco. But to date, no other issue - whether it is gambling, socialized medicine, or high taxes - has struck close enough to home to instantly galvanize the people into action. That is until now.

It seems the Pine Tree State is finally ready to fight back in the person of a single individual, a lobster fisherman by the name of Dan Riley. Riley lives on an island off the coast, and started lobster fishing alongside his father at the age of ten. Out of concern for the well-being of his fellow citizens, Riley drew up a petition summarizing the objections of all Mainers with regard to the dangerous homosexual agenda. Riley told The Record that he is concerned that if we do not become active immediately, we will soon lose the freedom to speak out against conduct we know is wrong. Riley also told us that there are a large number of citizens who are concerned about the homosexual agenda, but may not know how to make their concerns heard. Riley says this is the purpose of his petition.

Because the petition sets forth a clear and forthright statement of these concerns, it is believed that the petition will circulate widely among the public. It is hoped that churches and concerned citizens will print out the petition and distribute it to their friends and neighbors.

The petition is an Adobe PDF file. You will need the free download called Acrobat Reader to download and print the file. Go to
www.adobe.com to download Acrobat Reader. It is free.

Here is the wording on the petition:

Whereas the Governor, contrary to the wishes of the vast majority of the people of our state, is promoting the homosexual agenda; and whereas many elected officials have chosen to disregard the dictates of common sense and the lessons of history, preferring instead to discard forever the true definition of the institution of marriage, which is that it is a sacred bond between one woman and one man; and whereas many Judges, contrary to the wishes of the people, seek to impose a dangerous agenda on the people of our state and their children; and whereas the children of our state, contrary to the wishes of  their parents, are subject to homosexual indoctrination in the public schools; and whereas all Maine citizens already have substantially the same legal rights, we the undersigned do hereby call on the  Legislature of the State of Maine to unanimously reject the Governor's "sexual orientation" law.  Further, we call on the Legislature to immediately approve Representative Brian Duprey's constitutional amendment to protect the sacred institution of marriage in Maine.
