The Christian is the real radical of our generation, for he stands against the monolithic, modern concept of truth as relative. But too often, instead of being the radical, standing against the shifting sands of relativism, he subsides into merely maintaining the status quo. If it is true that evil is evil, that God hates it to the point of the cross, and that there is a moral law fixed in what God is in Himself, then Christians should be the first into the field against what is wrong--including man's inhumanity to man. -- Francis Schaeffer -- |

What about tolerance and "coming out?" |
The
former Mayor of Portland challenged the League's Legislative Liaison today
in the State House Hall of Flags. Tim Russell was there to lead a group of
approximately a dozen committed Christians and pastors. They took time out
of busy schedules to come to the State House at Russell's invitation. The retired Navy veteran told the RECORD, "I saw that the homosexual lobbying group 'Equality Maine' had reserved space in the Hall of Flags several weeks ago and decided to invite Christians to come and see what the radical group was doing in the citizen's State House." He and his guests were there to prayerfully listen and engage in conversations as appropriate. Russell was quietly taking pictures in the public hall with a digital camera at the request of the League's executive director, Michael Heath. He was approached by an agitated Karen Gerrity and accused of taking the pictures for the purpose of intimidating and bullying people. She said that the League uses its website for that purpose. Gerrity is a registered lobbyist with a contract lobbying group called Moose Ridge Associates. The other principal in the group is Betsy Sweet, another well known lesbian activist at the State House. Moose Ridge Associates claims that it doesn't lobby on homosexual issues. "These are the most intolerant, rude and unloving
people I have ever met," said Heath. "I am so sorry that the League's
professional staff is subjected to such poisonous encounters. I've grown
used to it, but I get really steamed when it happens to people close to
me." Pamphlets were available at tables in the Hall of Flags that instruct people on how to become public about their homosexuality. As it turned out the event in the Hall of Flags was not sponsored by "Equality Maine." It turned out to be an AIDs Awareness event. Equality Maine was listed on the State House calendar as the group that was lobbying from the Hall of Flags on Tuesday, February 1st. AIDs is a terrible disease spread mostly through promiscuous sexual contact. While there is no connection that the League is aware of between the federally funded abstinence education
group Heritage of Maine and today's AIDs awareness program, it is obvious
from who (Equality Maine) reserved the Hall of Flags that there is a
direct connection between Maine's most radical homosexual advocacy group
and Maine state government's AIDs awareness outreach. If our government
were serious about helping Mainers avoid AIDs they would be working with
Heritage of Maine, not "Equality Maine." One pastor observed the curious lack of sexual abstinence promotion at the event. A flyer was, however, available that explains how to publicly "come out" about one's sexual promiscuity (homosexuality). |
